The speed class competition, the first qualifying round at this year's World Equestrian Games, could not have end up better for Steve Guerdat and Bianca.
Second last rider to start, the Olympic champion 2012 and his reliable mare proved that they are extremely fit and showed a dreamy jumping course, posting the best time and putting them at the top of the intermediate standings. Second place went to Brazilian Pedro Veniss on Quabri de l'Isle, 3rd place for Rowan Willis and Blue Movie.
An ideal start for Steve and Bianca, even it is still a long way to the podium in the individual. And after this first qualifying round, the first 40 are classified within just one fault.
To follow up with good news, the Swiss team also is at the top of the intermediate standings of the team classification after this first qualifying class. In addition to the excellent performance of Steve Guerdat and Bianca, Martin Fuchs and Clooney have shown an excellent course, putting them to 5th place in the intermediate. Janika Sprunger is in 16th place with Bacardi. As 70th with Daimler, Werner Muff is a bit further behind. With 2.64 points, Switzerland is ahead of the Netherlands (4.35) and Brazil (6.42).
We look forward to the second qualifying round tomorrow, to be watched on FEI TV, Eurosport, RTS Sport or Cheval TV.
