Today the Brazilian gods in Deodoro probably had only eyes for their own national Quartet. With four clear rounds in the first round, the Brazilian team took the lead in the intermediate standings, ex-aequo with the United States, the Netherlands and Germany, all four teams with immaculate zero points.
Less well finished the Swiss team, sharing the 7th place together with the Swedes with also 8 penalty points. After starting rider Janika Sprunger had two down, the hopes lied on the following Swiss riders, and Romain Duguet and Martin Fuchs were able to fullfill them with two flawless rounds. Unfortunately, Steve as the last to start of the Swiss team also had two faults with his brilliant Nino des Buissonnets. Jumping slightly less impressive than in the first qualifying on Sunday, the Selle Français gelding had a fault a the big water, and another at the following fence. A very painful day for our team. The decision will take place tomorrow Wednesday at 10:00 (15:00 pm Swiss time), where they can still improve in the second and final round of the team event. But the level but will be again very high, and the Swiss team will certainly try everything to make forget todays result.
All four Swiss still in for the individual
The good news is that all four Swiss riders are ranked in the top 45 of the intermediate individual standings (Steve currently on the 30th place) and thus still have the opportunity to participate in the individual final on Friday. After tomorrow's third qualifying jumping the best 35 riders will be qualified to start, and all riders will be reset to zero points again.
