Fidèle de Bordeaux, where he finished second several times in the Grand Prix Coupe du Monde before winning it in 2020 with "Victorio des Frotards," Steve feels at home here and delivered a true demonstration on Saturday evening with his mare "Is Minka" in a crowded and vibrant Exhibition Palace.
The Jurassian rider had the disadvantage of being the first of six (out of thirty-six candidates) to go in the jump-off, but he gained enough strides between the jumps and tightened his turns to put significant pressure on his opponents and even discourage some. "I knew what I had to do, and my mare is even more comfortable when it comes to going fast," explained the Swiss.
"Is Minka," his good 11-year-old gray mare (a daughter of "Mylord Carthag"), Steve Guerdat thought he had lost her last summer after winning the Grand Prix de Normandie in St-Lô, as her owner decided to take her back to the United States. It was his father-in-law who allowed Steve to keep the mare: "I am happy to prove to him tonight that he made the right decision!" exclaimed the Jurassian. It took a lot of work, patience, and understanding with "Is Minka," but the result is there.
On Friday evening, Steve was 3rd in a 150 "Looping Luna."
Steve recently welcomed Lancelotta, an eleven-year-old Westphalian mare, not for performance but for training sessions.
