"You can't always win, but you can always give everything," was Steve's beautiful conclusion after a mixed final of Albführen's Maddox, who had shown such great performances up to that point, but was then perhaps a little tired in the final.

Maddox is still young and has no experience of multi-day competitions at this level, but he amazed us all and played a very big part to win this fantastic team gold medal. He has a promising future ahead of him.

Of course, we want to acknowledge the great silver medal won by Martin Fuchs, Steve's teammate and friend in good times and bad.

And then there were also brilliant performances in the CSI3* with the promising Dynamix de Belhême (12th in the 145cm test).
